The Lord put this scripture on my heart as I woke up, two mornings in a row. So, I felt that He wanted me to write about Psalms 90:12.
Psalm 90:12 “So, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
What exactly does it mean to number our days? Without a doubt, I believe that our Lord wants us to take a long, hard, look at the frailties of our own existence, and be determined to set the main priority of first and foremost pursuing a relationship with Jesus Christ, and then the Lord will set other priorities like family and ministry, things worthwhile for us to pursue. And if you are wondering, our family is our first ministry.
First seek Jesus Christ with every ounce of energy you possess, as your first and most important need. We must never seek the Lord for what He can give us or do for us. Our devotion must come from an insatiable desire, a great need to know and be known by Jesus Christ. He is near to all who call on Him. There can’t be a greater or more noble pursuit than to seek after Jesus Christ. No matter how long we have been in the Lord, there will never be a time we can say, “I know Jesus completely.” There is always more beauty to be found in the Person of our dearest Friend, Savior and Lord- Jesus. Deuteronomy 4:29 “But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you [truly] seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life.”
The blessings of seeking Jesus first. Colossians 3:1 “If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Matthew 6:33”But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” And Luke 6:21 “Blessed (happy—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from your outward condition—and to be envied) are you who hunger and seek with eager desire now, for you shall be filled and completely satisfied!
Godly Wisdom In this passage it mentions godly wisdom as one of the blessings reserved for us. James 3:17, “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled); then it is peace-loving, courteous (considerate, gentle). [It is willing to] yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is wholehearted and straightforward, impartial and unfeigned (free from doubts, wavering, and insincerity).” Wisdom is just one of the blessings that our Lord has stored up for each believer. And He pours out blessings in abundance. (Interesting side-note: In the Word of God, the word, blessing is always plural.)
Conclusion: 1 Peter 3:11 “Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it and let him do right. Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly. [Do not merely desire peaceful relations with God, with your fellowmen, and with yourself, but pursue, go after them!]” Psalm 69:32 “The humble shall see it and be glad; you who seek God, inquiring for and requiring Him [as your first need], let your hearts revive and live!”
