Psalms 34:15 “The eyes of the Lord are toward the [uncompromisingly] righteous and His ears are open to their cry.” What great compassion our Hevenly Father has for us His beloved children. We are His top priority. Psalms 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him.”
The Word of God is so comforting! Over and over again in many different places in the Word we read that the Father has His eyes on us and is listening for our cries. How eager He is to help us! He never will turn any of us away. And He has given us the physical example of fathers and mothers, to help us understand in some very small way His Fatherly love for us.
When I became a mother for the first time, my husband and I had twin girls. They were so very tiny at birth but after 6 weeks in the intensive care unit, in the hospital we were able to bring them home. Frankly, at first, I was scared to death. But through much prayer and frantically seeking the Lord, Who had always helped me in the past, I became more confident. He instilled in me the assurance in His Character and gave me some abilities, I never knew I had. Or maybe He just gave me new abilities! He was in charge, and we were going to be alright. I even got so that I could tell the difference between my babies’ cries. Were they hungry, or tired, or upset and which baby was crying. Every moment of the day, I watched over them and listened for their cries. So, I understand, as all mothers do, how the Lord loves each of His children with an enormous, intense, incalculable love. But wait Jesus loved us so much that He gave His life for us! As parents we completely understand about how our loving Heavenly Father is always watching over us and listening for our cries.
And our eager response should be found in Psalms 116. “Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live!” This verse encourages us to call upon Him every moment of every day. He wants to hear from us. Can you just picture it- the Lord quietly watching and listening for our cries for help. Not only that but ready and willing to help us in our hour of need. He has such great compassion for each of us! Every parent can understand the relationship between mother and child.
In the Book of Luke, there is a wonderful scripture that defines not only the ministry of Jesus but defines Who our Lord and Savior is-His Character- which shows us His great love and compassion for all mankind.
Luke 4:16-21 “When He (Jesus)came to the village of Nazareth, His boyhood home, He went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. 17 The scroll of Isaiah 61 the prophet was handed to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed and commissioned me to bring good news to the humble and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] the brokenhearted, To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives and freedom to prisoners…”20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. 21 Then he began to speak to them. He said, “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!”
Conclusion: The Word gives us great confidence in the Lord that He will always keep His promises to us His children Psalms 34:18, “Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth.” Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow]. Today let’s surrender ourselves as beloved children into His open Arms and allow Him to do what He does best- to continually pour out His Love and healing to us.
