The Word of God is meant to be the Foundational Truth on which we base our whole lives and to increase and strengthen our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Every decision, big or little should have its foundation in the Word of God.
When I first memorized this verse, I had no idea what it meant. It was only when the Lord brought it back to my memory and revealed its meaning, did I understand.
The way Jesus revealed this truth to my heart was this-
Many years ago, my husband, Charles, got laid off from the steel mill. He was unemployed for a year, which presented a great hardship for our family of four young children, five cats and a dog. Odd jobs never lasted long enough. But God was gracious to help us keep our home and provide groceries for our table.
Permanent employment was always at the top of our prayer list.
Very early, one morning as I woke up to pray, the Lord told me to wake my husband so we could agree in prayer for a job. The Word of God says in Matthew 18:19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
Then the Lord reminded me of Matthew 17:20, our verse for today. Faith was awakened in our hearts.
As we turned our request over to the Lord, we were filled with peace that passes understanding. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that my husband would get a new job that would be adequate for our needs. And I knew that all the demons in hell couldn’t stop it from happening.
Several weeks passed, and then the strangest thing happened. Charlie got a phone call from a company that he had never heard of, telling him that he was hired and to report for work the next morning. “What is the name of your company? What city are you in and how did you get my name?” He asked.
Our next-door neighbor, who was a regional representative for IBEW, the local electrical union, had submitted Charlie’s name to this company. Charlie started work the next day and worked there faithfully for 17 years until he retired. Isn’t God sooooo good.
