Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success”.
Meditating on the Word of God is the key to success as a Christian. God commanded Joshua to meditate on the Word of God. Therefore, it must be of great importance to God and to our spiritual welfare.
A good definition of meditation is- deliberately focusing your thoughts on the Word of God for the purpose of becoming more intimately acquainted with Jesus Christ -His Character & Nature, and desiring to be one with Him, experiencing His love, His mercy & His grace. In the Psalms, David often spoke of meditating on the things of God in the night, on his bed.
Psalms 63:5-7 “My whole being shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips 6When I remember You upon my bed and meditate on You in the night watches.7 For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your Wings will I rejoice. “
Benefits of Meditating on the Word of God-Meditating on God’s Word changes us; transforms us into the image of Christ. In other words, we look like Jesus when we get the rhema (life-giving) word into our heart, Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”
• Meditating on God’s Word keeps us from sin. Psalms 119:11 “Your Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against You.”
• Meditating on God’s Word allows God to share His secrets (His revelations) with His children-to speak with His children in a close personal way. He shows us how to apply the Word of God to our lives. Ephesians 1:17[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,
