2 Timothy 1:7 “God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but He has given us a spirit of power, and of love and of a sound mind.”
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The Lord is on my side and takes my part, He is among those who help me. Deuteronomy 31:6 6 Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.
Fear arises when we imagine that everything depends on us. Elizabeth Elliott
Both faith and fear demand that we believe something that you cannot see. You choose. Author Unknown
The Fear of the Lord-The fear of the Lord is commendable, and we are encouraged in the Word to have an adoring, affectionate fear of the Lord. Psalm 128:4 “Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord.” Psalm 34:7 in the Amplified Bible has an excellent definition of fear of the Lord-which is one who reveres and worships the Lord with awe! Excellent! Here are other adjectives that apply to our all-embracing worship of our Lord-reverence, wonderment, amazement, admiration, veneration, esteem. I could go on and on.
But now we come to detrimental fears. Fears that incapacitate and cripple us to the point of not being capable of enjoying life. I could give you a long list of fears that kept me bound for years. But God! Ephesians 2:4 “But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Romans 6:18 “And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action).”
I am reminded of the incident in Mark 8:37, when Jesus and the disciples were crossing the lake one night in a violent storm. “…when a furious storm [of hurricane proportions] arose, and the waves kept beating into the boat, so that it was already becoming filled.38 But He [Himself] was in the stern [of the boat], asleep.” The disciples were afraid for their lives. They didn’t recognize that the Creator of All was with them in the boat. When they woke Him, Jesus stilled the storm. Amazed by this miracle, they said, ‘What manner of man is this that even the winds and the waves obey Him?” Let’s remember that our Lord Jesus is also with us every moment of our lives. We can always count on Him, for He wants us free of fear more than we want it.
When I was praying for God to set me free from fear, my prayer was that the Lord would do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to set me free from fear and to be pleasing in His sight. Lord, show me what stands in the way and interferes with my intimacy with You, and give me the strength to lay it down. As you prayerfully read these scriptures, pray that our Lord reveals any fear in you so our Lord Jesus can set you free.
Worry and worship cannot exist in the same space. One always displaces the other. Choose worship.” Louie Giglio
I will answer you. If the Lord reveals fear in our life, know that He wants to set us free. Scripture tells us that our Lord has promised that He will answer us when we call. And we all know that God never goes back on His Word. Psalm 3:4 “With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill. Selah [pause and calmly think of that]!”
To those who suffer from fears of any kind, Jesus wants to set you free and in setting you free, you will grow closer to Him. 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him [be] glory (honor, majesty, and splendor) both now and to the day of eternity. Amen (so be it)!
