1 Corinthians 1:9
1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(I feel prompted to tell you that I found this article in my files, with no title or no name on it. That usually means that I wrote it. Some of my files date back many, many years. I believe I wrote it, but I don’t remember. At any rate, it’s an excellent devotional on trust.)
A first-rate definition of Trust is- assured reliance on the Character, Ability, Strength, and Truth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower.”
Here are a few Life Lessons that Trusting in the Perfect Lord Jesus teaches us.
Trust-
1. Teaches us to Depend on the Lord, Proverbs 3:5-6 ”Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”
2. Helps us to Be Led by the Spirit, John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
3. Helps us Live a Life of Obedience, 1 Samuel 15:22 “Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the Voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
4. Gives us Spiritual Eyes, Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” God knows every chapter in our story; we have to trust Him and His timing.”
5. Helps us to Bear Good Fruit, Colossians 1:10 “That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].”
6. Gives us more Faith, Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]”
7. Helps us Live a Life of Contagious Faith, John 4:39 “Now numerous Samaritans from that town believed in and trusted in Him because of what the woman said when she declared and testified, He told me everything that I ever did.”
8. Provides Safety for us, Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.“
9. Reaps Eternal Rewards for us, 1 Peter 1:8-9 “Without having seen Him, you love Him; though you do not [even] now see Him, you believe in Him and exult and thrill with inexpressible and glorious (triumphant, heavenly) joy.9 [At the same time] you receive the result (outcome, consummation) of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
10. Helps us Peacefully Dwell with Him, Isaiah 26:3 “You (Jesus) keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
Conclusion- Jesus is the only One who deserves our trust. If we can trust Him with eternity, we can surely trust Him with our day-to-day lives. Will you trust Him today and receive all His benefits?
